About this listen

When the gods come calling, you don’t get to say no.

Patrick Collins is three years into a career as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency when the gods come calling to collect a soul debt he owes them. An immortal has gone missing in New York City and bodies are showing up in the wake of demon-led ritual killings that Patrick recognizes all too easily from his nightmares.

Unable to walk away, Patrick finds himself once again facing off against mercenary magic users belonging to the Dominion Sect. Standing his ground alone has never been a winning option in Patrick’s experience, but it’s been years since he’s had a partner he could trust.

Looking for allies in all the wrong places, Patrick discovers the Dominion Sect’s next target is the same werewolf the Fates themselves have thrown into his path. Patrick has been inexplicably attracted to the man from their first meeting, but desire has no place in war. That doesn’t stop Patrick from wanting what he shouldn’t have. Jonothon de Vere is gorgeous, dangerous, and nothing but trouble - to the case, to the fight against every hell, and ultimately, to Patrick’s heart and soul.

In the end, all debts must be paid, and Patrick can only do what he does best - cheat death.

I'm loving this first book of a new urban fantasy series.

Patrick is a special agent for Supernatural Operations Agency. He was supposed to go on vacation but he just had to take that phone call and he ended up in New York on another assignment. That's where he met the hot packless God pack werewolf, Jonothan. The romantic subplot is a little bit on the slow burn side, but once they got together, it was HOT AF.

The world-building is great. As the story goes on, it's also unfolding Patrick's backstory. And what a backstory it is! I find it interesting how the Greek Pantheon (which is has big part of Patrick's struggle) is mixed with Norse mythology and other cultural mythology. The mix is seamless.

I'm floored with Hailey's imagination, first on Metahuman Files, and now with this new urban fantasy series. I can't wait for more.

Gary Furlong brought the characters life with his narration. Excellent job!

Law Enforcement + Werewolves + Magic = Awesome

MMy Thoughts and Review:

This was so freakin' kick you in the taco, steal your breath, make your brain feel like it's one page away from short circuiting, why don't I start my day with whiskey shots, I hope this crazy ride never ends AWESOME, that as soon as I read the last word I bought the audio and fell down the rabbit hole all over again!

I have had an obsession with the Greek Pantheon since I saw "Clash of the Titans," in the theater, when I was a kid. We are talkin' 1981 people! So obsessed I wrote papers on it all through school, even in college. I own books, movies, wall art, even dolls. Did I mention, obsessed?!?!?😂😂😂 This book is now right up there with my top faves of all time!

Turner brought the characters to life in such a raw and gritty way that you felt the angst and turmoil roiling through the Hero, Patrick, even when he was using snark and wit as a deflection.

Then his "voluntold" by the Fates partner, Jono, comes into the fray and adds another layer to the already dark and volatile atmosphere. Thankfully, the Fates always know what we need, even if it isn't what we want. Jono and Patrick push and pull at one another like two dancers in a street dance off. Then, they each begin to match the other's unique rhythm and their dance turns into a beautiful ballet.

There is so much action in this book, that even though there are over 100k words, you still regret the end coming so soon.

Even though it doesn't end on a cliffie, the HEA is still a work in progress, things are not yet settled. Patrick and Jono however are right where Fate needs them to be. **sigh...😍😍

Next book, PLEASE!!!💖

Loved all the characters and their development. The narrator did a great job with the speaking lines but when it came to the rest of the narration it was like listening to a robot...not the best. But overall the story was great, intense action, magic and very delicious intimacy with the characters. Looking forward to the next parts!!

Hot hot!

Patrick is a grumpish agent who seriously needs a keeper- to keep him from giving too much of himself. Jono is a Brit brought to the states by one of the fantastic characters you will meet in the book. The case Patrick is investigating brings you into a world of characters and a well developed mystery. My recommendation is to relax and settle in for a wonderful ride.

Hailey Turner has created a world that I want more of for sure! Gary Furlong's narration is the spot on for the story. I loved it and can't wait to hear him on the next one!

All kinds of supernatural goodness!

Wow. Talk about a hell of a story! It was so well written, and I was captivated throughout the whole thing. I started off the book feeling sorry for Patrick being pulled from vacation, and as I learned more about him I really loved him as a character. He was so strong and flawed and awesome. Jono is the perfect companion for him, even if neither of them really understand why in the beginning. I love how they started their own connection and relationship before all of the drama ramped up to make their future more hopeful. The relationship with Jono has a bit of a HFN ending, but it feels a bit stronger than Patrick really realizes, and luckily there is more for them to come. I am looking forward to it. I listened to this in audiobook format, and the narrator did an amazing job. The voices were spot on, and he did a great job engaging me in the story.

I love this series and the audio book only enhances the story. Most of the voices are perfect for how I envisioned the characters. Can’t wait to listen to the next one!

Great story! LOVE the voice for Jono!!

A Ferry of Bones & Gold was the perfect mixture of magic, myth and originality. I was beyond excited to start reading this book, but once I started, I was blown away by worldbuilding and the complexity of the magic in this story. It was well thought out and already has me yearning for more stories in this world.

I was expecting shifters and demons in this Urban Fantasy but was thrilled with the appearance of certain Greek gods and goddesses. (Hermes is my favorite!) I also can't wait to see how the other patheons come into play.

The main characters were both so intriguing and sexy as hell. Like Patrick, I lusted after Jono immediately! (And oh boy, if you are an audiobook fan, the narrator's accent for Jono is hot hot hot.) Patrick is so bad ass but also closed off and a little damaged from his past, while Jono is a lonely shifter who doesnt realize he is searching for a pack.

As we discover who the villains are, and who to trust, we are also piecing together the puzzle of Patrick's past. All this while rooting for the Patrick and Jono to find their way together.

I'm so excited for book 2, and I hope the romance between the two characters increase, because I NEED MORE. Oh and did I mention the steamy sences in this book are on point? Because they are. ;]

(listened to at 1.25x for personal preference.)

Intriguing, heart-pounding and sexy.

While I've enjoyed the story so far, the narrator is difficult to listen to at times.
To me, he sounds very flat and there is very little inflection of voices to fit the feel of the scene. It's also difficult to tell any of the voices apart.
The only ones that are easy to tell are female voices since there is a slight pitch change to a higher one, but that's it.

Narrator is a little flat.

I read this on my kindle a few yrs ago and really didn't remember the story much, or maybe it's the difference between reading a story vs hearing it. Either way, I didn't hesitate to spend a credit on this author and narrator.
Ms. Turner has a way with world building that really puts you right there in it. I also like how the emphasis is on the action and the relationship, while hot as heck, is not the whole focus of the story.
Gary Furlong continues to be my #1 narrator. His ability to put a different voice to each character is amazing. Although not as markedly unique in this performance as say the Hotter than the Sun series, I had no difficulty in keeping track of the characters here.

Interesting beginning to the series
