About this listen

A Christmas Carol is one of Charles Dickens' best loved tales. Ebenezer Scrooge, described as "a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner," is certainly no lover of the Christmas season.

He is visited on Christmas Eve by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that he will be visited by three further spirits: The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come.

A heart-warming story of one man's redemption, populated with many memorable and well-loved characters, which also offers a wonderful glimpse of mid-19th Century Christmas traditions.

...and try to keep it all the year." These words are spoken by Scrooge in Charles Dickens holiday classic 'A Christmas Carol'. So it didn't seem at all strange to me to listen to this audiobook presentation in the midst of a heatwave in August. This beloved tale of redemption and renewal took on further meaning in the challenging days of the last few months. Some say it's allegorical and it may be, but Dickens message came through for me as the need to be kinder, and more loving, more aware of each other. His briliant, poignant, and witty writing has been quoted and translated into every medium imaginable and is as fitting today as ever, maybe more so.

I still maintain if Dickens were to choose someone to interpret his work, it would be Rob Goll. I have listened to many of his Dickens' narrations. His style, timing and interpretation are always a compliment to Dickens' brilliant writing. This is another example. Goll's storytelling conjured for me those days with the family, sitting with hot cocoa in hand, as this story was read each holiday season. A magical performance indeed.

Excellent performance and perfect voice to read Dickens. He also read Great Expectations and was marvelous as well.

Wonderful performance
