About this listen
Three brief histories of America, Canada, and England: nations divided in their history, peoples, and culture, yet bound by a willingness to sacrifice everything for independence, power, and prosperity.
America, Canada, and England have been a backdrop to some of the fiercest battles and struggles for supremacy.
This three-in-one collection highlights the challenges, achievements, and disparate goals of each of these nations, revealing their fascinating alliances, spirited rebellions, and fierce defense of what they deemed or desired to be theirs. In these three books, you will discover:
- Early tensions that led to the colonies’ desire for independence from Britain.
- The regional fractioning of America, the secession of Southern states, and the subsequent Civil War.
- The Postwar Era spanning 1945-1980, when Cold War paranoia hit the nation like a hurricane.
- The diversity and richness of Canada’s first peoples—the First Nations, Inuits, and Métis, and the unique skills that each of these cultures possessed.
- How the Age of Exploration led the Europeans to explore and colonize Canada.
- Canada’s exciting journey from a British stronghold to an independent nation—featuring the Red River Resistance and Canada’s involvement in WWI.
- The ancient influences and ancestors of England—including the Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, and more.
- The Norman conquest of England and its deep historical and cultural impact.
- The War of the Roses—a period of great political turmoil that would transform English history.
And much more.
Let these books foster your understanding of the way that opposing forces lead to seismic shifts in the timeline of modern history.
Discover defining moments in history that revealed the differences and similarities that marked three powerful nations.

Story
A Brief History of America provides an overview of the modern history of the United States of America through the lens of the two-party political system. It explores the good, the bad, the right, and the wrong of one of the modern world's greatest superpowers. In the aftermath of the 2020 election, the world bore witness to the noxious political atmosphere in the United States and the deep divisions between its citizens. To those living in the present day, it would seem like American society is hurtling down a path of increasing incivility and polarization.

As a modern nation with deeply ancient roots, England has undoubtedly impacted the world around it. But how much of England is English? From the earliest Anglo-Saxon monarchs to the Windsor family, monarchs with foreign origins have occupied the throne. Much like its language, England has been shaped by the cultures that came to the island and the cultures around the world it attempted to overtake. In A Brief History of England, you will step back into the past to uncover the underpinnings of English civilization’s unique resiliency.

Though this is frequently explored no further than the global conflicts of the 20th century, in reality, Ukraine’s struggle for self-determination has far deeper roots than most people realize. See the splendor of the Kyivan Rus, gallop with the Golden Horde across the Ukrainian steppe, encounter the legendary Cossacks, and witness the terror of the tsars. From the Romans to the Mongols to the Russians, Ukraine has seen it all and remained uniquely Ukrainian through it all.

Israel is a tiny state, and yet it has captured the world's attention, aroused its imagination, and, lately, been the object of its opprobrium. Why does such a small country speak to so many global concerns? More pressingly: Why does Israel make the decisions it does? And what lies in its future? We cannot answer these questions until we understand Israel's people and the questions and conflicts, the hopes and desires, that have animated their conversations and actions.

Story
Traveling across millennia, weaving the experiences and world views of cultures both extinct and extant, The Invention of Yesterday shows that the engine of history is not so much heroic (battles won), geographic (farmers thrive), or anthropogenic (humans change the planet) as it is narrative. Many thousands of years ago, when we existed only as countless small autonomous bands of hunter-gatherers widely distributed through the wilderness, we began inventing stories - to organize for survival, to find purpose and meaning, to explain the unfathomable.

In this vivid and compelling narrative, the Seven Years' War - long seen as a mere backdrop to the American Revolution - takes on a whole new significance. Relating the history of the war as it developed, Anderson shows how the complex array of forces brought into conflict helped both to create Britain's empire and to sow the seeds of its eventual dissolution. Beginning with a skirmish in the Pennsylvania backcountry involving an inexperienced George Washington, the Iroquois chief Tanaghrisson, and the ill-fated French emissary Jumonville, Anderson reveals a chain of events that would lead to world conflagration.

In the dramatic narratives that comprise The Republic of Nature, Mark Fiege reframes the canonical account of American history based on the simple but radical premise that nothing in the nation's past can be considered apart from the natural circumstances in which it occurred. Revisiting historical icons so familiar that schoolchildren learn to take them for granted, he makes surprising connections that enable readers to see old stories in a new light.

Brief, but very explanitory!
The author gets right to the point about the "brief" histories of these three nations. I have ADD, so I appreciated the authors get-to-the-point discussions. Haynes didn't tiptoe around, he basically combined his three books into one and created an audio that tells it all. Well done and good narration.

Brief History
It is highly recommended that anybody interested in learning more about the history of these three countries read "A Brief History of America, Canada, and England." Even though these countries have taken quite diverse routes, they have a common goal of attaining independence, strength, and freedom. I found the history of the UK and old cultures and forefathers of England, such as the Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Germanic tribes, Vikings, and Normans, fascinating, and it's easy to understand how those people had an impact on the history of the United States as well. Highly recommended for those who are interested in history.

Perfect for history buffs and those who want to learn
I love learning about different topics, and having lived in all three of these countries, I thought that getting some more facts would be engaging to listen to while driving.
I got a ton of information and a different perspective, and going through each of these in a row highlighted both the contrasts and similarities. I appreciated that the information wasn’t given with rose-colored glasses and that the brutal parts of the history and the complexities were included.
I recommend this audiobook to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of these countries that they either live in, would like to visit, or have been hearing about on the global stage.

Great for Anyone!
This is an informative audiobook going over parts of the histories of America, Canada, and England. I love the way the author combined three history lessons into one book.
The book flows well and covers some defining periods of each nation. The narrator is easy to listen to and very engaging and the stories are interesting. I was not aware of the similarities of all three nations.
This is a great audiobook for teens going back to school as well as those just looking to learn a little more about America, Canada and England.

A Vital History of Western Civilization
Overall a thorough examination of the modern west, and how they came to be through the chronology of expansion from England. Examining germanic and norse roots in England, the author walks us through how these cultures and civilizations expanded into the Americas. Looking at both the break-throughs and set backs along the way, the author dives into critical turning points throughout their history, that ultimately feel vital to be aware of, living in America myself. The narrator was also great to listen to, was engaging and fun!

A very interesting book on the history of parallels between three great nations
The Arthur did a great job, presenting the information on the three countries and the similarities in them. It was just enough detail to keep you engaged, but not be distracted like you might be in history class. The narrator did a great job with a smooth voice, making it easy to listen to.

Good job condensing a few cent
it was interesting, hearing about our shared history and how intermingled our national destinies have been . The author has highlighted many of the more significant events which have shaped our nations. As a US citizen, I might have chosen some others.
This is not merely a history. With its personal commentary, particularly regarding more recent events, I felt it was a little biased.
