２０２３年12月、私はステージ４のがん告知を受けた。
告知の瞬間、私は、何を食べたいとか、どこかに行きたいとか、そんなことは微塵も考えなかった。
なんとか自分の命のあるうちにこの本を完成させて世に問いたい。そのことだけを考えた。
その意味で本書は、私の40年にわたる研究者人生の集大成であると同時に、私の遺書でもあるのだ。


私がテレビやラジオなど、メディアの仕事をするようになって四半世紀以上が経過した。その経験のなかで、メディアでは、けっして触れてはいけない「タブー」が３つ存在した。
（１）ジャニーズの性加害
（２）財務省のカルト的財政緊縮主義
（３）日本航空１２３便の墜落事件
この３つに関しては、関係者の多くが知っているにもかかわらず、本当のことを言ったら、瞬時にメディアに出られなくなるというオキテが存在する。それだけではなく、世間から非難の猛攻撃を受ける。下手をすると、逮捕され、裁判でも負ける。
だから、賢い人はそうした話題には最初から触れない。知らぬ存ぜぬを貫くことだけがメディアに出続けるために必要なことだからだ。ただ、私はそうした態度を取ることができない性格だ。（「まえがき」より）
