Did anyone say Pretty Woman?

The story line is very similar to Pretty Women. Nothing complicated. No twists or turns. I'm not sure if I would recommend this book. And, listening to the male voice... well, I thought we were having a "whisper party". I just wanted him to start talking like a man and stop whispering.

I can’t stop laughing

You guys: the male narrator’s voice is HILARIOUSssSSss!!! I can not. Stop. Laughing!!Which, unfortunately, makes this listen not AT ALL sexy. I mean, I feel like I’m listening to my gay best friend try to sound “super manly” and “fierce” *uses jazz hands* I’m tempted to say it’s completely worth the credit, but not for the reasons you’re looking to spend it...

This audiobook is near impossible to listen to just because of the male narrator. He sound like the villain in a cartoon. I half expected him to burst out in a “mohaaaa”.
He ruins the whole novel. I could handle five chapters.
Female narrator is great.

The males voice

this would have been a great book. It seemed so steamy everything was going so well as I listened and then around I'm not sure which chapter you could hear the male character voice taking big deep breath after every few words or lines. It sounded like he was in the midst of an asthma attack and it would really distracting from the story.

I enjoyed the audio, Jae Delane has a good voice for narrating BUT I am not sure what he was trying to accomplish drawing out his word like he was trying to be sexy.. did not cut it for me!

Male narrator

I enjoyed the story. However, I don’t think the male narrator was right for this story. Instead of sounding powerful and sexy, he sounded a bit creepy. Just the way his voice was quiet and drawn out made him sound like Hannibal Lecter. He would be great for scary stories.

Another lovely, hot book in this series!

Warning: This review contains some spoilers but won't ruin the book for you if you haven't heard it yet

I love this series. While this wasn't my favorite book in it, this one was still on par with the rest for sure. The performances were great. My only problem with it was the disjointed lack of understanding in these characters about their feelings. It wasn't so much that they felt out of touch with their feelings or even ignorant of them, but rather ignored them for a while. Especially Anne; for most of the book it was like she was still detached and I didn't feel like her whole heart was in it until the very end. To me, it felt like the author wasn't cluing us into what she was thinking enough and mostly focused on Jared in the crucial parts because he had a history of trust issues with women but if I were in his shoes and she acted so detached I would feel the same way he did, especially during the incident with 'T", I mean come on, she knew why he was upset but she threw it in his face and expected him to just profess his jealousy without ever having confirmed any reciprocating feelings... who could blame him for not wanting to discuss it and having difficulty trusting her? I also wondered about her considering selling out a man she stated she had been supposedly falling for and thought it a bit odd that he had just poured out his heart to her to tell her the tragic story of how he was betrayed by a woman spreading lies to the press and his response still somehow still managed to not just surprise but actually confuse her when he felt betrayed after that. I mean, really, what did you think would happen under the circumstances? So when she was sitting around wondering why he was so upset and refused to hear her out I was exasperated. Anne's character just felt a bit off somehow, like the author tried to fit two women into one and it resulted in this strange amalgamation of a character in some ways. Regardless of these criticisms, it didn't deter me one bit. The sex scenes were pretty hot and the choking thing is something I don't see all that often in dark romances for some reason so I was happy to see they weren't just participating in what I guess I'd label as "vanilla BDSM" where the girl gets a few light spankings and calls her man Sir while they have missionary sex at the speed he wants to take it and they call it BDSM play. That kind of disturbing trend, which I also like to call the "50 Shades trend" of BDSM, has been leaking into a lot of novels lately to appeal to wider audiences but it just turns me off (pick one, vanilla or kinky and don't try to put both in the book, you know? It just annoys me) so when I didn't see that here I rejoiced at the unfettered ecstasy of actually testing limits and trying some new things. I also felt a bit sad that the fast forward button was pressed during a lot of the first week of their time together and we totally miss what I considered a crucial piece of the puzzle: Anne's sexual awakening. We miss a lot of the dirty stuff the book offhandedly mentions and it's like a tease. Also, what was the point of adding in the bit about Anne and her father? It didn't seem to have any relevance in the end other than the one time Jared gets mad at her so it just felt like filler information to make her a more three dimensional character but it just came off as hokey to me. Anyway, I'll end the review by saying that even with some of my small disappointments and irritations (I have super high standards, I'm sorry), this is definitely a good book and deserves a listen for 1 credit and in my eyes if someone can have all these criticisms and still recommend the audiobook wholeheartedly, there's something there worth hearing for sure.

Great Storyline but......

I started the Violent Series by Linnea May and to date, I love this storyline best. Of the ones I've read so far (3 of 4), this one is the most realistic to me. However, l had some major issues with the storyline.

1. I found way too may repetition from the other books in the series. It always seemed like the hero had the same hairstyles, dressed the same way and was described in the same manner and I just felt like it was a cut and paste from the previous books. There was also a lot of repetition throughout the chapters (repetition of the same exact words to describe a similar scene) that weren't necessary and I just found them to be annoying and made it difficult for me to finish the book.

2. The male narrator, Biff Summers - while I liked the tone of his voice and it fit the role, I had a HUGE problem with his breathing. He was breathing so heavily throughout the book that I started having to tune it out and just focus on the words he was saying. I believe once he works on controlling his breathing while reading he can be a top narrator on Audible.

3. Jae Delane - her performance was good. She executed her parts really well and made me like the character of Ann. Loved how she read the "tough scenes" for Ann and that added value for me.

4. One of the main reasons I like this storyline is that the female character was not described as a timid person who was shy and helpless like the others. She seems to have spunk, her head screwed on and knew exactly what she wanted out of life (as opposed to the others). She took the money because it would benefit a goal she already had outlined in her life and was actually doing a job and not desperately broke and dying for someone to rescue her. The heroine was portrayed as a career driven woman who was on a mission despite her background. Loved how she was portrayed.


5. Of the 3 stories I've read, this one had the best storyline but I felt like it wasn't constructed or planned out properly. There was a lot of disjointed areas where I felt like it skimmed over some important details and gave us too many details of some things that weren't needed. This book had the most believable plot but the author didn't do such a great job in executing it the way I think it could. There was a lot of room for me to add details in my head. The first book "Violent Delight" was waaaaay better in terms of construction but the plot for me was too superficial and because of the effort placed in outlining the story, I consider it a better book.

narrators or robots?

struggled to finish. worst narration I've ever heard. so awkward and cringy. Jared sounds like a creepy molester
