About this listen
Short stories about sexual encounters, the energies that conspire to create them, and the energies that are created in their wake. Prose that explores our human endeavors to love. The Odd Purgatory is like no other collection of erotic short fiction.
Sometimes the most salient moments in our erotic explorations take no more to delineate than a paragraph or two. At other times, the arc of a traditional story structure is needed. In either case, the collection is more about "being" as opposed to "doing", and about the space between the words.
With original music by Jeff Evans.

Story
Midnight Cowboy is considered by many to be one of the best American novels published since World War II. The main story centers around Joe Buck, a naive but eager and ambitious young Texan, who decides to leave his dead-end job in search of a grand and glamorous life he believes he will find in New York City. But the city turns out to be a much more difficult place to negotiate than Joe could ever have imagined. He soon finds himself and his dreams compromised. Buck's fall from innocence and his relationship with the crippled street hustler Ratso Rizzo form the novel's emotional nucleus.

When one action goes wrong, the course of their lives is forever changed. The two must erase their past, forge new identities, and never see each other again. Now it is the 1990s. Mary lives in the suburbs with her 15-year-old son, who spends hours immersed in the music of his mother's generation.

Story
Switters is a contradiction for all seasons: an anarchist who works for the government, a pacifist who carries a gun, a vegetarian who sops up ham gravy, a cyberwhiz who hates computers, a robust bon vivant who can be as squeamish as any fop, a man who, though obsessed with the preservation of innocence, is aching to deflower his high-school-age stepsister (only to become equally enamored of a nun ten years his senior). Yet there is nothing remotely wishy-washy about Switters. He doesn't merely pack a pistol. He is a pistol.

Story
Cassidy Burke has the best of both worlds - a driven and successful husband and a wild, impulsive best friend. But after a decadent Mardi Gras party, Cassidy finds both men pulling away from her. Did the three of them awaken secret desires during a split second of alcohol-fueled passion? Or is Mardi Gras a time when rules are meant to be broken without consequence? Only one thing is for certain: the chill that's descended over her marriage and her most important friendship will soon turn into a deep freeze if she doesn't do something. And soon.

Story
Two orphan girls are taken from their jobs in a pants factory in North Korea, spirited across the Demilitarized Zone to be sex workers in the South, and eventually shipped to the United States. What propels the story is Gi, the heroine: a tender-hearted genius who loses everything yet refuses to be destroyed. All Woman and Springtime reveals with chilling accuracy the facts of life behind North Korea's iron curtain, the horrific underworld of the sex trade, and the resilience of a spirit in the midst of unspeakable oppression.

Story
Daniel Pecan Cambridge, 30, 35, 38 or 27, depending on how he feels that day, is a young man whose life is rich and full, provided he never leaves his Santa Monica apartment. After all, outside there are 8-inch-high curbs and there's always the horrible chance he might see a gas station attendant wearing a blue hat. So, except for the occasional trip to the Rite Aid to admire the California girl Zandy and to buy earplugs because they're on sale, he stays home a lot. And good thing, too.

Would you listen to The Odd Purgatory of My Personal Perception again? Why?
The best stories move you in to the lives of their characters. In this collection, the author has gone beyond and draws you in to their most intimate thoughts and experiences. Touches of lightness counterbalance the difficulties and challenges of love, loss, lust and being human. These stories are more little paintings of the lives and moments that could be ours or someone we've known. What does Keith Hamilton Cobb bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
These character portraits and peeks into personal lives have an extra flavor added by the warmth and variances of the storyteller's voice. If you could take any character from The Odd Purgatory of My Personal Perception out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I think it would be he would take me to dinner. Or buy me a drink. Reuben, the 'strong, nearly-silent type' bartender in "Kathryn Tells Her Soon-To-Be Ex-Lover a Thing or Two," is an intriguing side note in the story. And yet this character is the truth teller, gatekeeper and protector. How could you not be drawn to Rueben? Or maybe it's just me.Painting with Words; a Peek into Other's Lives
