About this listen

LOVE LETTERS STRAIGHT FROM THE ID takes you back to a quieter time, a time when everything wasn’t so obvious, so explicit. A time when suggestion, not blatant visuals, allowed one the pleasure of imagination. And so was the charm of the letters presented in the popular magazines of the day—the girlie magazines, the swingers magazines, the personal connections magazines. Magazines that generally did not tittilate by displaying explicit photograghs—no, magazines which tittilated through suggestion and implication. Allowing the mind of the reader to fill in the blanks, often with those treats the reader wanted most. Thus the popularity of the various “letters” areas of those magazines. Whether letters to the editor, or letters to an advice columnist, one could always be sure the letters would entertain and stimulate by providing insight to the experiences, the problems, the thinking, of regular folks, folks just like the reader. Perhaps even friends or neighbors of the reader. Or if not, at least the reader could imagine that it really was the pretty married teller from the local bank that wrote the letter! LOVE LETTERS explores those long gone, but not forgotten, meanderings.
