About this listen
When Mia Turner's life becomes tethered to a mysterious billionaire who she swears is the devil himself, she knows that she must break free. It doesn't matter if everything about him - those sinful lips, those pale-gray eyes, that perfect male body - keeps her awake at night. He's evil, and she has to get away.
But when this man, known simply as King, suddenly disappears, Mia will discover that she's not home free. Because without King, she's no longer safe from his ruthless, depraved, power-hungry social circle.
To survive, Mia will have to conceal King's absence and walk a mile in the evil man's twisted, cruel shoes. What she discovers will leave her more terrified and her heart more conflicted than she ever imagined.
Contains mature themes.

There’s a smokin’ hot dead guy locked in my garden shed. That part’s bad enough. But now, he’s trying to get out...Growing up, my father always told me that I’d come to a bad end, just like my mom did when I was a kid. Hearing that kind of shit when you’re little eventually gets to a girl, but I can’t say I ever expected my "bad end" to involve an angry vampire with a severe case of iron deficiency and a panty-melting English accent.

AN ALL ACTION, ADDICTIVE & AH...MAZING PLOT
With King's disappearance at the end of book 1 Mia has been forced into a terrible and terrifying situation.... Vaughn and the 10 Club will be able to claim all of King's possessions - including her. So she can either give in to her fate or fight and call their bluff so what sort of trouble will the feisty woman get herself into? Well, the best and the worst because as the plot deepens rather than clear up questions it throws in more confusing ones and the only constant thought is that, despite everything, Mia and King should be together..... but you just can't imagine how.
King is beautiful, sexy, evil, tortured, charismatic, charming and cruel and Mia is brave, funny, kind and ever hopeful that she will win despite all the odds against her. The plot now delves much deeper into the paranormal and has a 'hate to want him' vibe and still no out and out romance or sex just sensuality, heavy petting and a sense that these two souls should be together. But the plot doesn't suffer because of this as you know it's building and it's going to be awesome between them. And then, just when you think you can settle down and like King again, he shocks you with another terrible twist that'll leave you reeling. Great secondary characters. Told from Mia's POV which often turns tragic or humorous and again Helen Wick delivers a good performance.
Worth a credit? Although there is no actual romance you know it's building and I have a lot of faith in Mimi Pamfiloff to make book 3 epic. There is however plenty of intrigue, suspense, mystery, twists and pulse-pounding weirdness in this entertaining listen that'll have you desperate to get to book 3. Very creditworthy and Hallelujah I'm off to listen to their finale.

🌻it’s a trilogy, so part two ended on a down note🌻
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
The one common factor, with most trilogies, is that the second part always ends with the major conflict reaching its’ peak. This series has been no different. However, I still don’t think I have began to understand the truths, in this story. Some may state that this is because the writer has done a good job of making the story unpredictable. Maybe, but Honestly, I’ve felt more confusion than anything else. The way the the second part has ended, the author has a lot of resolution to write, in part three.
In addition, I do not like the person the Heroine has become. She has allowed someone else’s actions to influence her own beliefs and values; and I detest when the Heroine is weak of character. Honestly, the direction this story has taken has made me doubt that a HEA is possible for all involved; only time will tell.

Hmmmm...
Well, this is a review for the second book in the king trilogy. Those previous reviewers who compared it to the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning would be correct, although KMM series was better.
I guess the only thing I DISliked about this story was the main character, Mia. Talk about a neurotic mess, I mean, combined with the narrator’s voice I wanted to pull my hair out only because I couldn’t pull hers out LOL!
Mia is over dramatic at best, purely childish and naive for a supposed “successful woman” of what? 26? Her responses to every situation are comparable to what mine would have been at 16, before I could think and reason. Now with Mia addressed, I LOVED all the other characters, King..yummy and Mac ..yummy too❤️
The outline of the story and the suspense is terrific, I love that it keeps me guessing! If Mia were more mature and reasonable I would have given this a rating of four and half stars, five if it was longer!
Another good recommend after this
(Aside from Karen Marie Moning) would be Kresley Cole Immortals after dark as well as her Arcadian series!
Happy Listening! ❌⭕️❌⭕️

Love K.M Fever? You will enjoy King.
This series has a VERY similar (some say to much) flavor to the Mac & Barrons relationship, which is why I enjoyed it.
I like the Alpha paranormal hero and if I can find more heroes that remind me of Barrons then I am in.

Mia... what happened to you...
This book was amazing in the sense that I hate everything about it's plot right now. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic book! But I'm enraged at the events that have unfolded within it. I'm too emotionally invested in a story I found and didn't read the summary of without realizing there were fantasy elements in it and I was hooked in the beginning before I realized and now I'm hooked even more. I can't imagine what Mia has been through but her gut reaction for someone so "good" was certainly off the chain. Certainly. it meant she wasn't as good as she liked to believe she was. She was kind of self-righteous in that way in the first book and I didn't like that. I expected her to have already let King in by now and I get why she hasn't but to be willing to let him do what she wants him to do... that's cold. I can't wait to finish the series and good Lord I just pray that Mia turns back into a goofy two shoes because being like King makes her seem like a childish bratty liar. Trying to throw around priceless old artifacts and ruining the plan because she wasn't privy to every single detail was so irritating, as if she deserves to be in the know about every single thing that has any sort of indirect effect on her brother. This girl was definitely sheltered before King and she needs a wake up call that life doesn't always work out how we want it to. Call me cynical, but it's funny how Mia forgets what he did for her mother so quickly when things don't go her way. Her character needs to buck up and grow up a little. Anyway, that's my rant about a fictional character and I suppose I should say my piece on the actual book. I love this narrator, but I couldn't help thinking the whole time that while it probably would've given too much away to have King's perspective, I would have loved to have at least part of it and some dual narration. Having only Mia all the time makes it feel like we're in the dark like she is and while I get that this is the point, it's hard to connect to King because of this for me at times. Regardless, I love it and I'm moving on to the next book! I'd give this 5 stars but it's kind of a tease to make us go through all this with all that sexual tension with no follow through. That's a mistake that might cost this author in my opinion, one book and I can understand the waiting, but we are 2/3 of the way through with not one instance of sex. That's rough. Then again, I found this book by accident and thought it was a contemporary romance so I suppose I should shut my mouth and enjoy the ride, and that is what I shall do!

Book #2 .... disappointingly mediocre
I really enjoyed book one. Perhaps that is why I give this book only 3 stars. It is a continuation of Mia and King's complicated relationship. I thought too much time was spent to make it a stand alone by explaining everything that happened in book 1. Half way through it did take a turn for development which kept me half-way interested. I have high hopes that book 3 will make this trilogy worth the credits I used. In my opinion this book is worth a sale ... I would save the credit. The developments toward the end of this story is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2.
