About this listen

Eric Yang is 32, a combat veteran of the Saudi War, and a student at Denver University (DU). His goal was to reintegrate back into society. His service freed him from the mistakes of his past. His dedication pushed him to achieve more from life even with his disabilities. While not all scars from war are visible, Eric was given a cybernetic arm that even scientists in 2032 considered futuristic.

An isolated semester at DU is disrupted by his doctor's dire warning. The asteroid barreling toward Earth is an alien spacecraft with hostile intent. Eric scrambles to plan, consolidate, and form his team while the rest of an oblivious society is prevented from accessing vital information.

Marcus Sloss did an excellent job with this series I really enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and believable and only got better as time went on. I will admit that the beginning was a little slower than I am used to but that does change and I am glad I stuck with it because it is an excellent series. Jack Douglas and Alexa Roosevelt both do an amazing job narrating this series and bring all of the characters to life. I recommend this series and at just over 48 hours its a great listen for a credit.

A fun series and a great listen

Absolutely fantastic series. Amazing depth, characters, and struggles in a military/alien invasion/dystopian adventure.

The narration duo did an amazing job keeping the story moving and keeping you wanting to know more.

Fantastic

This has to be one of Marcus Sloss’ best works. The story follows a series of characters that gain depth as the story continues. He definitely leaves room for follow sequels to the saga. He got more right from a military perspective than what I would have expected from “trashy-sci-fi/romance” series. My only real complaint is that I wish they would have expanded the fourth book to fully cover all of the issues presented, much as they did earlier in the series. Performac

It was very entertaining.
Having a long minimum word requirement to leave a review is stupid

I really enjoyed this series. The writer has a way with words and really captures your attention. I spent may evenings listening to the story unfold while preforming mundane tasks that I had put off for far to long. I laughed a good bit and got misty-eyed a few times too. (I think I missed a coma somewhere). I love all the books this writer cranks out and look forward to more.

Awesome story

I liked the series. For the most part, the characters made sensible decisions, and their stories were interesting.

I think my biggest problem was that each book almost became a separate story, with a separate direction. I understand that changing degrees of interest over time can lead authors to shift the general direction of their stories over the course of a several year long writing cycle - but in the afterword, the author states he write the whole series in about two months.

Jill and Mary’s story doesn’t seem to flow well. It would almost have been better to bump Jill off so Eric could just adopt Mary; the kind of split custody solution doesn’t feel fair to anyone, especially if more children are on the way. That said, Mary’s desire for a daddy isn’t necessarily the best start to build a stable relationship.

Finally, building up to a major confrontation that decides the fate of the universe, then being forced to drop everything? I mean, in one sense, this is very realistic - nothing ever goes as planned, it’s a hell of a notion, as Styx once sang - but it does make the whole happy ending thing feel off.

By no means do I regret listening to this, it held my attention (or at least, when I realized it hadn’t, I rewound so as not to miss anything). But I’m not convinced I will want to listen again. Not every book begs for multiple readings, and that’s not a Sarah flaw. In my opinion, it is a line that separates an OK to Good book from one that’s Good to Great.

The narrators did a great job. I especially like the owl that sounded like Sterling Holloway (original voice of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh) and the human (the plumber maybe) who sounded like Patrick Warburton). There were one or two times where they stumbled a bit over the text, mostly by not emphasizing things properly, but great overall.

Interesting story, but not necessarily one I will revisit.
