About this listen

This dark book isn’t a fairy tale or romance. There is no Prince Charming, only an irredeemable villain and the object of his desire. His OBSESSION.

I felt his eyes on me everywhere I went.

I recognized his smell lingering within my home.

I even sensed his presence in my sleep.

It was too late by the time I found the monster hiding under my bed. He had wedged himself into my life, cornering me with nowhere to run.

The worst part?

The world adored him, but no one knew the devil lurking underneath the beautiful mask—no one except for me.

Manipulative, cold, and remorseless, Axel Trimalchio was a certified psychopath hiding in plain sight. He was fixated on me and would never stop chasing me.

He was determined to make me his... even though I already belonged to someone else..

*This book isn't listed in the Romance category, and Axel shouldn't be considered a hero. Check the author's content warnings before proceeding.

Interesting Stalker point of view

This book is very addictive! I finished it in 1 day! I like that you can crawl in the mind and thoughts of an obsessed stalker. I really loved the whole story! The story is very well written and I love how all the puzzle pieces fit together

The ability to love 2 people in absolutely purity and still manage to do the right thing.

I loved everything including the narration. Okay yes I didn’t love that I didn’t get the epilogue only because I needed to see into the future of these 2 but I loved their story ♥️

Dark. Angsty and emotional

Drethi A’s 5000 Nights of Obsession tore me apart the first time I read it. It had to be the angsty, saddest story, filled with tumultuous feelings from every character. Though it is a retelling of The Great Gatsby, it is a dark and twisted version. The audiobook brings the story to life with narration from Elena Wolfe and Sebastian York. And I must say that it gutted me even more so this time around. Drethi A’s storytelling is always remarkable, and bringing this one to audio was enjoyable.

Everything!

I love Drethi’s writing, this love story is perfection. The highs and lows, the depth… I can’t wait to dive into Fatal Obsession and read Poppy’s story!

Piya and Axel

Elena Wolfe did a fantastic job! The way she narrasted captivated me. I liked how she portrayed emotions and made certain scenes feel like I was watching a movie! And Sebastian York, is no surprise he’s me all time fav male narrator, his voice is so pleasant to listen to and it fits all the morally grey/dark characters so well.
Piya and Axel’s story is like no other. I mean, all the crazy stories that came from THAT list were so fun, yet I think there was some sort of melancholy there, I’m not sure how to describe it. The last percent is absolutely mind blowing and I wanted to know more! And wow, once twists are revealed it’s safe to say, Piya’s strong conviction and Axel’s ob session will leave you enthralled.

Got me all twisted up inside

Unique story, very flawed characters, lots of angst and the morality got so gray it was almost black. But, doesnt everyone deserve love? Elena Wolfe and Sebastian York certainly convinced me . Their narration was emotional and gritty and really made it an intense experience. Bravo !

Audio review

Elena Wolfe, Sebastian York

The narrators were really good. They definitely added depth to the characters. The dialogue was easy to understand. The scene at the end when everything comes to a head was exceptional!

Axel was over the top obsessed. He wasn’t going to let anything stand between him and
Piya. He was cold in his dealings. He manipulated people and situations to get his way. For the most part, Piya folded until it mattered the most. She stood strong for her family when she had to.

The characters were perfectly flawed. Piya was the young black sheep of the family. She was always dating the wrong guys, always a disappointment. One of the first scenes show her as a 21 yr old at her brother’s wedding. She mixed up the outfits and was kicked out of the wedding. She had a lot of growing up to do.

Axel is definitely a man obsessed. His character was very complex yet simple. His entire world changed after one night with Piya. Everything he did was to get Piya in his life forever.

Axel was toxic but he loved Piya the only way he knew how. Without apology and a lot of manipulation.

Loved it!

Wow priya and Axel! this book was fabulous in all its darkness. I loved the back and forth between the past and present. Everything tied up in the end I felt a bit sad for priya but only for a moment . The rest of the time I was like what in the world and how could that be and wow that is super spicy. Please mind the trigger warnings with this book. Despite that it wasn’t romantic I still enjoyed reading this ! The narrators did an amazing job with these characters and giving them life. Just amazing story and narration!

I'm obsessed!

A few months ago, I downloaded this book to read, but time got away from me and it got a bit lost in the shuffle of my Kindle tbr list. I never did forget about it though, and when I found out the audio was coming and it was going to be narrated by Elena Wolfe and Sebastian York it was an easy way to move it back to the list.

Aside from some recs of this and seeing the tropes posted on some teasers, I went in pretty blind. I'm not usually into Great Gatsby retelling, but I was hooked from the very beginning. Immersed in the culture and familial expectations for the fmc, Piya, we see how she just doesn't fit in with the world they want her to live. She meets Axel and they have one night where both their lives change and Piya leaves returning to her own. Fast forward 14 years and Axel is back and looks to claim the woman that got away not caring she's moved on and has a family of her own.

This book is dark, has stalking, manipulation, and many other things that could be possible triggers, so be sure to check the list. The story has time jumps between past and present. Some of my favorite parts are more in discussing how Piya believes she's undoing the things that were put on her unfairly in her culture and by doing so is she really doing what she intended for her own daughter. The dynamics are fascinating and I'm still left thinking about them.

Highly recommend this book whether you choose to read it or listen. I'm intending to order a copy for my shelf and I've already pre-ordered the next book.
